Fluorescence in situ hybridization using 1p36 and 19q13 LSI FISH probes are used to detect oligodendroglial phenotype. Allelic loss of 1p is a powerful predictor of chemotherapeutic response. Combined 1p36-19q13 deletions are highly associated with classic low-grade oligodendroglioma histology and a longer survival rate. Perry A, Fuller CE, Banerjee R, et al. Ancillary FISH analysis for 1p and 19q status: Preliminary observations in 287 gliomas and oligodendroglioma mimics. Front Biosci. 2003;8:1-9. Buckner JC, Gesme D Jr, O'Fallon JR, et al.
